  • About Friendship Community Project

    Friendship Community Project's teachers and students.

    Friendship Community Project is a 501(c)(3) Nonprofit, founded in 2015, dedicated to teaching English language and life skills to Iowa City area adult immigrants and refugees.

    We teach English language skills necessary for success. We also promote a sense of community belonging and practical assistance in accessing local resources and learning about our community, serving as an anchor for those new to the community and culture who have not yet formed local ties. Extra curricular activities include a help desk, conversation groups, tutoring in special situations, and conversation partners.

  • Fall, 2026 English Offerings

    Fall, 2026 beginning adult English class will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10am-11:30am at the Broadway Neighborhood Center, 2105 Broadway St, Iowa City, starting Tuesday, September 8th. Class is free!

    English Intermediate Level Conversation Group at Nancy’s House. For intermediate to advanced English language learners 10:00 am to 12:00 noon on Wednesdays at 1023 Kirkwood Court, Iowa City.     Free, Online English conversation group with George, online group conversations: 3-4 p.m. Tuesdays. For information, email info@fcp-iowa.org

    Intermediate to advanced English language learners, if you would like to be paired with a volunteer conversation partner, email Susan at info@fcp-iowa.org

  • Fall 2023 English Classes

    Our free, adult English classes will begin again on Monday, September 11th. Come to 845 Pepperwood Lane (Good News Bible Church building). Registration will be at 9:30 in-person, followed by the first class at 10:00.

  • Summer Vacation Begins

    Our last day of English classes will be Wednesday, May 3rd. Have a happy summer!

    Our next Community Night at Hudson’s will be on June 21st, 4-9pm. If the weather is nice, maybe we can meet and eat outdoors there! Please mark your calendars.
