Friendship Community Project is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, founded in 2015, serving refugees and immigrants in the Iowa City area.  We offer free English/life skills classes for adults and assist our students in accessing local resources, practicing conversation, and getting to know people in the community.

This year, 2026-27, we have scaled back our programing due to reduced immigration and low enrollment. Our free, beginning English language/life skills class will begin on Tuesday, September 8th, and meet until early May. Classes will meet on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, 10:00-11:30, at the Broadway Neighborhood Center, 2105 Broadway St, Iowa City. More advanced students may join an in-person or online conversation group, times and location TBA .  We can also provide volunteer conversation partners for one-on-one practice and cultural exchange.  Email info@fcp-iowa.org if you are interested.

Visit our Friendship Community Project Facebook page for updates and announcements, or email info@fcp-iowa.org for information.  We have an ongoing need for volunteer conversation partners and tutors with a background in ESL, education, English, linguistics or foreign languages.

We thank our individual donors as well as Hills Bank and Trust Company for their support of our program .
